Thanksgiving lands on the fourth Thursday of November because Congress said so in 1941, and almost everything else about it is more complicated than the school play suggested. The 1621 harvest feast ran three days with about ninety Wampanoag guests and five deer, the national holiday took until 1863 to arrive, and the green bean casserole is a 1955 Campbell's invention.
