Wake County, NC Β· City of Oaks Β· Est. 1792
Raleigh
In 1788 North Carolina picked a spot in Wake County for its capital, where no town had stood before, and the plan that followed put the Capitol in a central square with another square at each corner. Two of those corner squares are still parks. Since then Raleigh has picked up oak-lined streets, a Dentzel carousel, a sunflower field on old hospital grounds, a dinosaur nicknamed Fran and a habit of sorting itself into inside and outside the Beltline. These eight games cover the City of Oaks from Joel Lane's land deal to the Dix Park trolls.
